Pep Band
For the 2012-2013 school year, the band will play at more games, hopefully 10 (split between girls and boys). The Judah fight song is very outdated. Miss Thomas will investigate to see how “married” the school is to the tune. If the answer is that we’re not, we could pick another tune, and perhaps have a contest to write lyrics for the song.
Café Night Fundraiser
We picked a date for the fundraiser in the fall, September 29, 2013. The location will be in the Judah gym. We will place the tarp down, and have round tables at which people can sit, eat, listen, and socialize. The stage will be set with drums, amps, mics, though performers are welcome to bring extra equipment if they want/need it. We’ll have an application for groups/performers so we can have some type of screening process. We’ll also ask for live music verses a vocal solo with a tape accompaniment for instance. We’re open to any genre (rock band, acoustic guitar and voice, jokes, dance) as long as it’s edifying to Christ.
We will use ticket sales and concession sales to make a profit. We would like to get sponsors for prizes. We will need to figure out categories for prizes. We will also want to be able to state a specific goal for this fundraiser, in order to be able to speak to our sponsors, such as the purchase of needed instruments, music, or even a trip. Businesses to approach would be The Music Shoppe, Skins and Tins, Corson’s Music, etc. We would like to potentially meet once or twice over the summer to plan this event in more detail before we come back to school in August.
Generous Donation
We received an anonymous donation to the jazz band after they played at the Judah Auction. It was suggested that we find something that would help the jazz band look good to the public. We have decided to order 6 stand fronts for the group which can be used year after year. We’ll need a design for the fronts; it was suggested we modify the preexisting Judah logo of the lion and the cross to have some type of musical graphic with it, perhaps a rolling musical staff which comes around the lion. We may be able to approach some of our independent study art students for assistance in this.
Judah High School Graduation
The band has been asked to play at high school graduation 2013 (and perhaps for graduations in years to come). We’ll put it on the calendar and order Pomp and Circumstance right away!
5th Grade Band Recruiting
Before school is out, there will be a flier sent home in 4th grade’s Friday folders with dates and details for next year’s band info night. (usually the very first Tuesday we return to school.) Just like this year, high school band students can receive service hours for volunteering to help 5th graders try instruments. The Music Shoppe rep will be there to sign contracts; students will need to have some type of confirmation from me or another knowledgeable party (probably those high schoolers) that the instrument they picked is a good fit before they speak to the rep.
Do You Have Band Photos to Share?
We’d like to get some more updated photos on our website for the band, so if you have any, send them to Miss Thomas! We understand that it can be tough to capture the concert band on stage since they’re up high, but our current photos are getting outdated. As soon as some photos begin flowing in we can add them to the Band Page. We can also have other documents, such as the year’s schedule and band handbook posted.
