Pursuing Purity

Possible Topics - 9th Grade

  • Classes will be taught in same-gender, same-grade groups unless noted.
  • Educators recognize that students have varying degrees of interest and maturity in dealing with the topics. They will seek to protect students’ modesty and innocence while also being honest, gentle, and straightforward about what students need to know.
  • Students will be encouraged to continue discussion of these topics with parents and/or other trusted adults. At times, there may be assignments to encourage communication between students and their parents.

Dimensions of a Healthy Sexuality (Coed) Spiritual, physical, emotional, relational and personal dimensions are components of our sexuality
Attraction and the Brain (Coed) How attraction (healthy and lustful) is processed by the brain
Perceptions and Realities Results of 9th grade brainstorming on perceptions of the opposite sex; how those perceptions are similar or different from realities
Appreciating Gender Differences How God wires men and women differently, but complimentary

God’s Desire and Satan’s Deceit Purity in thought, word, and deed; Satan’s lies
Heart Holes Triggers to seek love in all the wrong places; mistaking our human relationships to fill our innate longing for God (evaluation/assignment)
Where is Sex? Messages about sex in the world, including media, music, and advertising
Lies and Lines Lies about having sex; lines guys and girls use to get more physical and emotional intimacy in a relationship
Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships Characteristics of each; how to recognize and deal with
To Flirt or Not to Flirt? Flirting, cheating, commitment (evaluation/assignment)
Pregnancy Myths and Facts Factual information about pregnancy; common myths
Levels of Physical and Emotional Intimacy Progression of physical and emotional intimacy in relationships
Where’s the Line? God’s view on sex; determining how far is too far according to God’s Word
Safe Dating Guidelines for dating; maintaining boundaries (evaluation/assignment)
Restoring Purity Healing and forgiveness; living with consequences
Final Evaluation
